Our Corrections policy at 211 Check
Our correction policy is a document that informs and governs staff behavior, sets clear expectations, and confirms that 211 Check performs its role in being open to corrections.
It is also the basis for staff supervision, training, and supporting a defense in case of a negative outcome. We welcome and value both positive and negative feedback from our audience which we receive in the form of comments, emails and phone calls.
In the unlikely event that an error is discovered and we receive any complaint regarding the accuracy of our content, the 211 Check desk immediately revisits the fact check and investigates the facts.
For corrections to or the addition of substantive facts that meaningfully change an article, a correction notice will be placed at the end of the article after it has been updated. This will usually involve an editor’s note in addition to the fact-checker. Once the correction has been made, a notice of the correction is sent to all mediums in which the article has been published. Errors that contain serious factual flaws or information that changes the fact-check’s implication will be clarified and corrected as soon as possible.
We are open and responsive to corrections and inputs that would improve our work for the better. Please send feedback, corrections or complaints to [email protected] or through a direct message on our social media channels.
We encourage our audience to let us know exactly what their concerns are by making their comments as clear as possible. Where possible, we ask our audience to include any links to reference material or data that is publicly accessible.
Our Correction process at 211 Check
Feedback can be submitted in the comment section under an article or in an email to [email protected]. These channels are checked daily.
Every comment and all feedback is reviewed by a senior member of staff.
Depending on the authenticity and magnitude of the mistake/error, 211 Check edits the published information or duly informs the reader in case the original news does not qualify as a mistake and how the 211 Check Desk arrived at such a decision.
211 Check lets its readers know as soon as it has considered their feedback or comment as well as whether they will be making a change in the article in response to it. If 211 Check does decide to make a change, it will be highlighted in the article.
- In the event of a factual error, a note labeled “CORRECTION” will be added to the report, along with an explanation of what has been changed.
- In the case of clarifications or updates, a note labeled “UPDATE” will be added, along with an explanation of what has changed.
As per the correction policy, 211 Check continues to strengthen its fight against misinformation by building the capacity of its team in regular fact-checking and monitoring the content flow on websites, social media and offline.
211 Check actively does fact-checking work and data analysis.
In case of any appeal or feedback, 211 Check takes note of the details provided, does the correction/corrections following our Standard Operating Procedures and editorial guidelines and also puts on record the fact-check articles that needed corrections.
A fact-check article might occasionally receive requests to be retracted, amended, edited, withdrawn, or “taken down” from readers, sources, and/or former staff for a variety of reasons. These requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by our editorial team. In most circumstances, these requests won’t be granted unless the requested change satisfies the aforementioned corrective conditions. The editorial desk will treat the request in the same way as other revisions outlined in this policy if it concludes that there has been a factual error and a correction is necessary.
